but I have to say I was blown away at how good a read his book was

I wanna give a shout out to my friend Matt Daigle. Just finished reading his first novel When Heroes Fall. I never knew he was a writer beyond music, but I have to say I was blown away at how good a read his book was. At first I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy it. I instantly lumped it as a war novel (not my usual fare,) but much like Star Wars not being a Sci Fi movie as much as it is an action adventure western that happens to be set in space, this is a character study with war as the backdrop. His characters were well thought out and really came to life. The story was gripping and intriguing with an end I didn't see coming. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and will likely do so again! I'm also further humbled that someone with the writing talent of this magnitude bestows kind words on my hack garbage that gets called writing. Please check it out. The cover art was done by another magnificently talented friend in Emily Mathews Bowers. Great job my friends!

Mystery, History, and Passion

In his freshmen effort at writing a novel, Matthew Daigle has managed to translate his love of all things World War I into a gripping and compelling piece of fiction. Though The Great War is the backdrop of this tale, it is only a stark backdrop against which his characters live out their lives. The real focus of this story is on the decisions that we make in order to get us through our lives. Daigle's characters make gut-wrenching and even shocking choices in order to traverse from moment to moment, and in the end leave us looking at our own choices.
Mystery, love, murder, intrigue, violence, and the calm that settles at the end of a life: All of these are present in Daigle's work, and will keep you engaged and turning pages all the way through the shocking conclusion of his tale.

A well written epic.

A well written epic. Set in France during WW1, this novel follows the story of James and Joseph as their lives become intertwined by fate. What seems like a war novel at first soon gives way to a very personal character driven story of the human condition. Dramatic events play out as these two very different men become enveloped in the circumstances of the day. Violent in parts, and tender in others, no emotion is spared in setting the mood or framing the narrative. The twist ending will catch the reader by surprise as the clues to it are so subtle, and layed so carefully, that even a seasoned reader may indeed fail to catch them. This is author Matt Daigle's first novel, but if his writing here is any indication, hopefully not his last.
