I was given a free copy of this book for honest feedback.
This is a story about humans that have ascended into a higher form of ‘human’. They are not mutated; instead they possess the knowledge it takes to tap into their special abilities, which lay dormant in most humans. There are varying levels of ascendant humans, which causes a struggle, both personal and group related, for their positions in the pecking order and of course, they all want to be alphas.
It is a tale about good versus evil, which contains well written action scenes and believable dialog. There are a few twists and turns that will keep sci-fi and fantasy readers in their element. The characters are fleshed out so that you begin to get a sense of their true nature, but they are not completely revealed, as they shouldn’t be because this is just the beginning of the series.
The author doesn’t give away everything in the first book; he teases the reader with bits and pieces that need to be put together to form the whole. I really enjoy trying to figure out what is going to happen, rather than having it spelled out in detail. I dislike the characters that are intended to be disliked. I am reserving judgement on those that are intended to be mysterious and I like/love the characters that are intended to be liked/loved. I will tell you that Cayde is my favorite; a writer cannot go wrong with an intelligent, smart-mouthed, sarcastic, good-looking bad-ass. I look forward to his story-line in the upcoming novels.
The vocabulary is easy to understand for young readers, but seasoned adult readers will enjoy the writing style. No heavy descriptions to sort through and no tediously endless dialog. Good clean structure that allows the reader to dive into the story and not get swamped with unnecessary wordiness. There is no cussing or adult content.
I hope that you enjoy reading this book as much as I have. I have no negatives regarding this book so I would rate it at a 5/5 and recommend to people from 12 year-olds to adults.

A very awesome book cover

FBI Agent Kevin Hardine (retired military) didn’t get a chance to arrest Cooper Barrett (28, NY, Telepathy).
The Ascendants: James Payton, Mia Rivera (Lucas' sister), & Cayde Brady did.
Dr. Connors was the Ascendants leader. Other Ascendants are: Christine Mercer (former CIA), Tommy, Susan Lee (interrogator) & Tori Hathaway (interrogator, Telepathy).
Susan was off on another assignment so Tori (17) got the honors if interrogating Cooper.
What would happen to him?
Who are the Chosen (Post Humans)? How many are there? What is their goal?
The Chosen are & off-shoot of the Syndicate (Post Humans) who plan on taking over the world.
The Post Human (Alpha, Beta, low levels) website does their own world-wide recruiting.
Kein’s contact is Commander James Sullivan (retired military).
What happens to Susan?
Who is Azir?
& what about Dorian Granier?

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A fairly well written sci-fi book. It wasn’t always very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish, but never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great sci-fi or fantasy movie, animated cartoon, or a mini TV series. A teen would love it. To be continued? It was just OK for me so I will rate it at 4/5 stars.

This story is a work of fiction containing science fiction and fantasy. This is an interesting story involving humans, Post Humans, and aliens.
Dr. Connors picks Post Humans who choose to use their abilities for good. His goal is to provide safety for Post Humans. Doing so,
The Ascendants, which their group is called, must fight evil Post Humans. They are also involved in a battle with an alien from the moon.
There is plenty of action and is a bit humorous at times. In my opinion, this work is pricey for such a short story. The story held my interest and left me wanting more. I rate this work four stars because I felt the writer should have developed his story more. He might want to consider joining the next Ascendants' story and this story into one.
