Another excellent piece of work....
By Doug
C.G. Cooper definitely has written another winner with the publication of Corps Justice: National Burden. This represents another fine piece of work by Cooper! I found the character development to be very well done. This is particularly true of newcomers to the story-line as I am quite familiar with the usual gang from SSI. It is very encouraging to see that Cooper realizes the necessity of sticking with a tried and true system (in this case, more than adequate fleshing out the quirks and foibles of names which are going to become commonplace in the pages ahead!). In addition, I was pleasantly satisfied with the consistent degree of detail which Cooper provides all through the telling of this story. A solution to a problem is found or a course of action is decided upon and BANG!....something total unexpected pops up which requires the time and attention of the team from SSI. However, I did not find the changing of focus from one crises to another to be disorganized or chaotic. Rather, I was left believing as a layman that this is most likely the way things happen in the world of true-to-life groups such as SSI. The dialogue is not stiff or canned: given my understanding of the personalities of the characters described in the book, how they react and what they say appears to be realistic and believable. If you have been a regular reader of Cooper's series on Corps Justice to this point, I urge you to read this newest adventure! I found it fits very nicely into what has gone before and you will not disappointed in the continuation of the storyline, the level of action, the dialogue, or the opportunity to read the work of a truly gifted writer of thrillers. I believe you will agree that this is another excellent piece of work!

I will first start by saying the ratings are all 5's so I must be the only person who read the book and was rather bored. I have up until this book loved his work. I came in with Cal, his security company and his employees. There was more action which is what I like. I could relate to Cal with his major dislike of politicians. The book had unethical and crooked politicians and people with money who had the attitude of wanting to controlling the world. How is that different than what we have in office now? Its frustrating enough to hear how the politicians don't work for their constituents, rich people wanting more control and money, and the United States continuing to be hurt by their pathetic performance. I did a lot of skip reading and kept the storyline going. I have to say though that Mr. Cooper does expand his characters well and knows how to develop his plot. I would just like to see him go back to original characters. By the way, I thought Travis leaving the business was kind of a slap in Cal's face and thought Cal would be ticked with him for a while. Cal hates working as the CEO, he is the action guy. Would I read another of Mr. Coopers books on this series? Definitely! I have to because of "The Hammer's" last line telling Cal he needs to leave the company has me pacing around waiting to find out whats next. Hurry up Mr. Cooper I can't wait to get the next book.

Better and better - a very good story that keeps the Corps Justice series moving forward
By Wm Eric Brunsen
This book is an example of an author keeping a series going without using the same basic story in a different setting.

I would have to say that the books in this series are quickly moving from the "action and adventure" genre to the "thriller" genre. What I mean by this is that the stories are getting more involved, have more complex plots and some twists in them rather than just "good guy hunts down bad guy. That does not mean that he has gone overboard with the story or done away with the action, but rather has added a more in-depth story to the action.

This book was a very enjoyable read, and the way that the author incorporated the climate of today's politics in this book was well done and made the book more compelling.

There were a couple of things that I thought were out of character for specific characters in this story, but that is to be expected from time to time. In this case, the actions of the characters that I didn't agree with were not so far out of line that I thought they were wrong and did not fit the character, they were just different from what I thought they would be. As a reader, when we form our "picture" of a character, we fill in traits and features of that character that meet our expectations. From time to time, an author will have a character do something that does not quite fit into what we think the character would do, but that does not mean that either the reader or the author is wrong, just that we have a slightly different understanding of the character.

As usual, the author has done a great job of telling the story with just enough details to make it real and give the reader a sense of the setting without adding too many extraneous details that cause the story to break up.

As I have said in previous reviews of this authors books, each new book is better written, has better character development and a more complete story line. For more details see this review (http://www.amazon.com/review/R5J6QTRVGL2RN/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm).

If you like books with action, a good story line, and that are fun and easy to read, then this is definitely a book you want to read.
