Charlotte Dodd took me in a spin!

Unfortunate things seemed to happen wherever Charlie Dodd is involved. The gas leak, car running in red light, and being shoved to the subway platform... These were accidents, right? Hmm, if you'll ask me, I highly doubt it. Because her boyfriend of two years happened to be one of suspected members of a group that Charlotte's family was investigating.
The only problem is: Charlotte doesn't remember a thing about investigations. Or about secret government agencies. Neither about being a spy. Charlotte has no recollection about her secret life. At all.
Charlotte or Lottie seems to be having her normal life. Until she sees a man being beaten up by thugs and she surprisingly knows how to pull a gun and apprehend the thugs. As if it was natural of her to get into trouble and deal with villains. Soon, she's face-to-face with the people who claim that she's a spy. Her brothers. Her grandfather. Her partner. Was she living a lie all this time?
This was a nice easy read. Charlotte Dodd reminds me of some characters that left an impact in my viewing life. Still remember Sydney Bristow, CIA secret agent extraordinaire from ALIAS? I loved her in the TV series (especially whenever she's with Vaughn) and was one of those who cried when the show ended. And Charlie's fascination with Alias all the more made me love the book. Then Charlotte also reminds me of Taylor Shaw from Blindspot - a show about a mysterious tattooed woman who has lost her memory and does not know her own identity. Yep, I'm a big fan of crime drama/spy drama series so beat it.
Seriously though, this book took me in a spin. The first part was a little kinda confusing, which was okay because it got the reader guessing and excited. When I got to the middle part, that's when all hell broke loose. Charlotte Dodd is a whopper. A firecracker. Feisty, silly, snarky firecracker. Her secret life slowly catches up on her, and along the way, she may have come out a little whiny sometimes, convincing herself to go with the flow but doing the exact opposite and stuffs like that. In the end, it was all about family, betrayal, decisions, decisions and more decisions. Glad that I was able to read it until the last page. I'm sure there's a lot more in store for Charlie and I can't wait to find out more.

I wanted to like this one but I just couldn't get into it. It had everything I could have wanted in a novel: Toronto setting, bada** MC, sleeper agent, etc. but all these things ultimately led to it's downfall.
Charlotte was pretty cool with the first action sequence, but then quickly became annoying. She would ask questions that were logical, then "go with the flow" before ultimately asking THE SAME QUESTIONS AGAIN. It didn't seem logical to me that she would be so hard to convince after she saw two of her brothers who told her that she was a spy AND she took down two men and had these "sleeper" abilities. It was just strange to me. And a tad bit annoying. I feel like she just thought the same thing over and over again instead of processing the new information to create new questions for herself about her situation. And there were so many dudes. Four brothers, plus two other randoms, and only one female. And of course upon meeting the female, Charlotte didn't like her name -- or the person. *sighs*
The backstory also wasn't that interesting or intriguing, especially since she didn't immediately tell someone she called Luke. As well, the writing was a bit difficult for me to get into and really connect with Charlotte. It seemed as though there was one story actually happening and then Charlotte's commentary which was just ... not good.
I'm sad to say I didn't enjoy this one, but I just could not handle the writing or the immediate girl hate. I also didn't care enough about Charlotte and her relationship with Luke -- that we knew next to nothing about -- to continue to see if she would stay with Luke or end up with Ham or Benjy TBH.

A touch of deja vu and a wild car chase through the streets of Toronto leads Charlotte and Benjy on a wild adventure, and it gets even crazier when Charlotte's flashbacks become reality when she is told that she is really a spy for the Canadian government, and that her services are needed because her family is in danger!
The Secret Life of Charlotte Dodd is a fast paced and action packed tale that follows Charlotte as she tries to remember her past secret life in order to save her family and the agency from a rival secret intelligence organization that views them as a threat and is trying to destroy them. As the story unfolds, the reader is kept on their toes with intriguing twists and turns that will keep them guessing what will happen next to this sassy spy during her crazy adventure.
The story starts out slow and is a bit confusing as the reader tries to figure out what the heck is going on with Charlotte, but then the author turns it up a notch and gets the reader engaged when Charlotte is told about her past and the secret life that she has led as a spy. That's when the thrilling adventure begins as her recollections resurface and she has to sort out the questions involving her family, her boyfriend Luke, and the rival organization that is after her family.
So if you are interested in reading a chick lit tale with an intriguing twist added into the mix, then look no further, The Secret Life of Charlotte Dodd is the book for you!
