About the Author
Casey Robert Swanson was born in Kirkland Washington, a suburb of Seattle, Washington. He graduated from the University of Washington with BA’s in History and International (Russian) Studies. Casey was a book rep in the early 1980’s, representing small and midsize publishers to west coast bookstores, and then he owned a small, independent publishing house. He has spent most of his working life in sales and sales management. Casey has been an active member of several Chambers of Commerce and served as an ambassador for them.

In AFTER THE ATOMS FALL, we find a post-apocalyptic Earth. 2000 years prior, the world dissolved in a nuclear fury; forces of East And West collided over the Middle East and a thousand years of winter ensued. Much of the world’s population was lost.
Traveling through the universe, in search of answers, an alien race find the Earth just before the calamity of the ‘Great War’ happens. These aliens, of tremendous intellect and curiosity, help the people of Earth survive the 100 years of darkness. But to what end?
If you are a science fiction fan, you will love this book.

Dark but hopeful story of a future earth devastated by war

In this compelling tale of post-apocalyptic earth, advanced aliens arrive on Earth, hoping to prevent the great war that will destroy modern human civilization, the same type of war that had almost destroyed their own world. They fail to prevent war, but before leaving, they lay the groundwork for the eventual reunification and reemergence of humankind, selecting the best of humans to live in refuge in underground cities built throughout the world while the war above rages. These “Teachers” also selected a few long-living humans, the “Sages,” to help guide the rebuilding of civilization and preserve human knowledge. As foretold, the Sages know that reunification will come under the leadership of a man from the sea, though they do not know his identity. The book takes up events some 2,000 after the war. Mutineers who had been cast off a trading ship are stranded on a rocky shore, where they are attacked by mutant, cannibalistic descendants of those who had fought in the war, coming upon the mutineers on huge war birds. The mutineers fend off the attackers, but a great storm later leaves them battered. They are rescued by residents of an advanced city of traders, and there they are taken under the wing of a Sage, who comes to believe that among these mutineers may be the “savior” the Teachers had foretold.
Meanwhile, the ship from which the mutineers had been cast, badly damaged, wrecks upon the shore of an island, believed by the surviving sailors to be the legendary island of Argonia, which had been populated by intellectual elites before the war to preserve human knowledge. But over the centuries ignorance held sway, and by then the island was populated by a people under the governance of a priesthood of a religion that engages in human sacrifice. The sailors are treated as gods, but their arrival may spur the open revolt of a group of dissidents called the “Sect of Knowledge,” who are trying to unlock the secrets of a vast computer library they had found.
Much of the second half of the book is taken up with preparations for what is hoped to be the final war against the mutants. Disparate peoples from many lands converge upon the place of battle, including remnants of the great prewar monotheistic religions, nomads accompanied by huge wildcats, and expert archers. In the meantime, more is learned about the suspected “savior,” including information that may unlock the secret to a lost Sage and much more. The battle with the mutants, in which the surviving mutineers play a prominent role, provides the climax to the book, but this is the first in a series, and many threads of story are left dangling, leaving the reader anxious for the next chapter in this saga. Highly recommended.
