A Great New Series for Kids

This is the first book in a new early chapter book for beginning readers. Zach and his best friend Miranda love to test out new things. Uncle Fazo, Zach's uncle, was an inventor who recently died. He left many of his inventions as well as an instruction book for Zach and Miranda. They concentrate on the Plip Plap Plop ball, which is actually a teleportation device. With the help of a small robot, Gilbert, they set out to save words from an evil overlord, Tain, and his minions. Children will learn some of the origins of these different words and have fun reading this book. Using ice cube guns, wands and other devices, Zach and Melinda will lead you all on an adventure. A great debut novel introducing a new series.

Kids will love Plip Plap Plop!

Plip Plap Plop really is a fun read that takes the reader on adventures with Zach, Miranda and the intelligent robot, Gilmore as their guide. Zach’s uncle has entrusted his many inventions into Zach and Miranda’s care. The two children explore and discover the plip plap plop ball that can take them to other places and different times where some of our strange, funny and bizarre words of the English language were first made. But Zach and Miranda must be careful for they are not the only ones capable of such adventures. Tain and his goons also seek after finding the interesting words that make our language, but… instead of desiring to save such words, these bad guys want to destroy them.

Kids will enjoy the fun and clever characters, cool inventions, time travel, an appreciation for the unique words we use in the English language and the action-packed race against merciless villains. The end of this first chapter book leaves the reader eager for the next book of the series, wondering what the villains will be up to next!

Fun and Educational

This lively, fun story will surely appeal to its target age group. The concept of "saving words" is fresh and entertaining. The author deserves praise for introducing young readers to the joy of language. While adults may have trouble suspending disbelief in the word origins portrayed in the time travel scenes (because the true etymologies of those words can be found in any decent dictionary), children won't have that problem. The author's plan for having the characters, and presumably the reading level of the texts, grow over the course of the series is also a plus. The only weakness I see in the plot is that the antagonist doesn't show up until after the middle of the book, so there's a lack of focus and tension. Since this is clearly identified as the first installment of a longer story, however, that's not a big problem. I would have rated the book higher if not for copyediting issues.

Great story of a man, his quirky companions and their adventure backpacking through the deserts of the Southwest United States. It's a feel-good book, with lighthearted humor and a surprising twist at the end! Very much enjoyed the physical and mental metamorphosis of the main character. I would recommend this book to any age or someone looking to read an amusing story about adventure and personal growth.

Really Great Read

Read this book in one day. Starting at the first page, this book grabs your attention and keeps it all the way to the very end. When you think of the original concept of the Wizard of Oz this books follows that formula to a certain extent with a serious twist. The story ventures off the "yellow brick road", and becomes a story of its very own. You won't be disappointed. A really great read!!

This is a charming book that is a modern day twist on the wizard of oz with a darker perspective. Once I was captivated by the characters I couldn't put the book down! I loved the hints at the original characters but at the same time the authors managed to create a unique and original storyline that would hold up on its own. I enjoyed getting to know each character, with their dark and interesting pasts, following them throughout their journeys of finding themselves, and I couldn't help but root for them along the way. I was enchanted to say the least and was left wanting more... A great read!!!

I don't 'get' their connection

I read Dragon's Lair about a year ago. I hope Chantal will be able to publish the next book much faster. I don't remember much from Book 1 already beside of the laugh out loud humor. In Arrow's Hell, the humor had been toned down a lot.

When I read the prologue, which is in Arrow's POV, I was thinking 'we have a winner here!'. Arrow had been guilt ridden on what happened to his girl, Mary in the previous book. It had been 5 years and he never able to move on. Poor guy was celibate, mind you. Until the day, his Wind Dragon MC brother, Rake brought his younger sister, Anna into their life, Arrow finally felt desire for the first time since Mary.

Is such a shame that Arrow only got his POV in prologue and epilogue, the rest of the story was solely from Anna's POV. She was back in town for her post-doctorate program and being the sister of a MC brother, she had a legion of scary men watching out for her, much to her annoyance.

Anna was portrayed as smart, brave and beautiful. Both she and Arrow had shared a special kind of attraction towards each other from their first meeting. However, Arrow still very much moping around with his tattered heart and Anna couldn't help but want to make this sad man smile for once.

I know I'm suppose to fall for their slightly forbidden romance because Arrow is not suppose to have feelings for Rake's little sister. While Anna was experiencing the whole unrequited love because she thought Arrow is still mourning for Mary.

But I don't feel much emotion towards their romance. To me, all their interaction consist of Arrow being grumpy and cold towards Anna, while she tried to engage with some one sided conversation with him. Then all of a sudden, they both got serious and Arrow had to 'talk it out' with Rake. I just don't get how they get from hardly knowing each other to all those serious stuff. The flow just doesn't feel right to me and there is a lack of actual getting to know each other part.

It had been mentioned several times (not once) that Anna is a smart, brave and beautiful, but beside of us knowing she got PhD in science, I don't see she portrayed her smartness in real life. She spent the whole book mooning after Arrow, pissed off at her protective brother, pissed of at Arrow when he act like a caveman, jealous of Faye, jealous at Jill,... I mean is okay to be jealous, but I don't see any of her positive attribute that had been stated. I don't hate Anna, I just don't feel much for her.

As for Arrow, there is so much potential for his character, as per what I had mentioned about his prologue. But he was such a letdown for me as the story progress. First, I felt like I don't know much about him when the story ended. Secondly, the way he was celibate should be a big deal, but by the way he broke his celibacy, I rather he be a manwhore instead. Thirdly, beside of being all protective and one little gift, I don't see any romantic gesture from Arrow.

I had to say by the time the little twist came in by the last quarter in regards to their rival gang, I already lost interest in Arrow and Anna's relationship.

good but...... not book 1

Growing up all Anna and Rake had was each other. Years later they have both changed and though they love each other life has separated them till Anna comes back to be closer to her brother. Five years later Arrow still deals with the guilt of Mary's death so when he see's Anna he is shocked at the emotions she brings to him and sets about to do everything to stay away from her. Anna knows there is something about Arrow she wants to be around and get to know better but the biker is silent and broody all the time.

With Rake being Anna's brother Anna is under the protection of the MC so Arrow see's her a lot and soon he can't deny that he wants her but his guilt for Mary stops him. Anna wants Arrow and just when she thinks she is making strides at getting him he pulls away. And when Anna learn about Mary she wonders if Arrow could ever care about her when he can't get past Mary. As they continue to spend time together Arrow moves on and Anna wonders if she should too. When it seems they might have a chance the repercussions of Arrows decisions to get even with Mary's killers may blow back on them now, and Arrow will have to decide if he can get past Mary's death and if he can ;I've without Anna.

I loved book one in this series and couldn't wait for book two. When I first heard it was Arrow I was surprised that he was getting a book but happy he would get his happy ending. This book started off great the flow was great it sucked me inform the first page and I tried all I could to not stop reading. But the more I read the more tired I got hearing hearing about Mary. Arrow was way to hung up on her, and yes I get it it was horrible she died but I almost felt like this book was about Arrow our hero and his two heroines. I wish this book had taken place further in the future, and I wish so such time hadn't passed int his book before they actually get together.

Arrow was broken at the beginning of this book and I really liked his character I'm just not sure how great of a hero he was, Arrow spend most of this book making Anna work for it while he does his own thing but was never ok with her wanting to do her own thing. Anna was strong and had been though a lot but when it came to Arrow she put up with way too much. I wish he had had to work harder. I will say that after all that I didn't want to stop reading this book, I really enjoy the world Ms. Fernando created and something about this book even though my frustration kept me wanting to read and I actually did till I literally fell asleep with my kindle in my hand.

We get a peak into book three in this book which will be interesting because Allie really shows out in this book so the heroine Lana will have a lot of crap to deal with I'm sure. We also again get all the characters we met in book one and delve more into the Wind Dragon's Motorcycle Club and new characters are added that tie enemy's together. Overall I have mixed feels about this one I didn't want to put it down AT ALL, and I love the writing style of Chantel Fernando but I was hoping for more from Arrow and thought Anna should have expected more. And maybe I feel that way because I loved book one so much and on my re-read I even raised my rating.

I think part of the issue for me was that their was too much Mary in this book and Arrow got away with way too much in my opinion and some things were left open for me. But having said all that I can't lower my rating to under three stars because this book literally sucked me in and wouldn't let me go. I'm really interested to see what happens in book three there is so much already going on with that story that I really want to see how it all pans out.

Arrow created his own Hell.

**My review contains spoilers if you haven't read Dragon's Lair.**

Five years later, Arrow is still grieving the loss of Mary. He feels responsible for her death and he feels guilty for how he treated her. He's quiet and moody - no longer the carefree, fun loving brother.

Anna is Rake's younger sister. She's come home to finish graduate school and to be close to her brother. Anna immediately is into Arrow and he feels a stirring for her as well but he resists.

Much of this book is the back and forth I want you, I don't want you on both their parts. Anna has few TSTL moments but she's new to the biker world so I was quick to forgive. There was an interesting surprise regarding Arrow's revenge on Mary's killers. I mean what are the odds? Plus there was a discrepancy that I had an issue with - Arrow says he hasn't been with anyone since what happened to Mary. But we know from Faye's pov in Dragon's Lair he was drowning himself in women. So say he's telling the truth - I just don't buy it. Five years in prison and he still didn't get a woman first thing when he got out? Bulls***. It sounds more like Fernando changed her mind about what she wanted for Arrow's character.

I mostly liked this book but you can tell it was cleaned up by a traditional publisher. It seemed cookie cutter, it didn't have that certain charm that's pure Chantal Fernando that Dragon's Lair had. But I'll keep reading the series, I'm invested and excited for Tracker's story.

Possibly the Best Book Ever Written on Humility

This book is a must read for every Christian. I have never read a book which so accurately defines Biblical humility. Murray shows how humility is a mindset and lifestyle, not a feeling. Humility is the one-word definition of every Christian's life--or it should be. Humility is the one-word description of all Christ was and is and of how He lived as our example to follow. The most amazing truth in this book is that which speaks of humility being a quality not resulting from sin, but from grace (God working within the believer). Jesus was perfect in humility, yet He never sinned. Humility was required on the part of the Son of God in Heaven before He ever became incarnate, so humility is a heavenly, Godlike quality. We need not sin to be humble; we need to be like Jesus as found in Mark 10:45 to be humble. In other words, for a Christian to be perfectly humble, he/she must be the greatest servant, not the greatest sinner. And if one could be totally sinless in this life, he/she would be perfectly humble. This book is too short, too low in cost, and too easy to read (though challenging in virtually every sentence) for any Christian to have an excuse not to read it.

Discipleship chisel that will drive pride out of your heart

This book delivers way more than one would expect. Let me explain that. First of all it is not that long of a book. But for many people it takes a long time to read because the points he makes on every page are so convicting. Also, it is written by a South African pastor in the 1800's, and has a woodenness to the English that slows you down. This gives the topic a KJV feel to it in some places. Some people don't like that, but I found it enhanced the whole experience of reading this powerful little book. I asked a man in a church about 30 years ago why he was so short and his son was so tall (his son was well over 6'4" and he was 5'5"). He said something to me that I never forgot. He said, 'dynamite comes in small packages' so don't ever underestimate a small person. That's exactly how this book it. There is spiritual dynamite on the pages and so don't underestimate the transformational power in this little paperback (or hardback).

It leveled me to the ground about 12 years ago. It is still at the top of my list.

As a pastor, I have recommended this book to many, many people. It usually changes their lives. The fruit tends to be enduring and deep.

I think this book should be read by every Christian. If you don't have a copy, buy an extra one so that you can have a loaner.

Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord...

Anddrew Murray writes with the simplicity and love of a pastor, without soft-soaping or sugar-coating the truth. His abandonment and love for Christ is evident in all of his works and, therefore, qualifies him, in my opinion, to write a book on humility. You can tell he has experienced humility and that it is not just an intellectual excercise.
The one thing I took away from this book is that humility is indeed an experience; you can hear about the need to be humble, read, and even study about it. But unless the Spirit makes humility real personally to the individual, it is possible to become haughty about the need for being humble.
Andrew Murray's works have added so much to my Christian life; I feel closer to G-d because of the things he has written.

a diamond in the rough!

This book took me by surprise! It is truly a hidden gem! The entertainment value alone is immeasureable. The writing style is unique, but refreshing, and once you get a feel for the author's style you'll understand why Grandma Moses is such a beloved artist. This book "reads" like a Grandma Moses painting "looks". To say that this book transcends genres would be THE understatement of the post-modern literary scene. This read is complex in that it has a purposed simplicity. This author is most definitely an undiscovered star...or more accurately an undiscovered solar system! Do yourself a HUGE favor and read this book! I can't wait for this author's next work to be released!

Hey, Let's unify the galaxy!

You didn't have anything else planned for the afternoon, right?

"Belle" Bellamy (green-haired super-babe) and Clee Garlock (super everything else) are the two people on Earth with the highest innate degree of that amazing psionic-thingie. With it, their minds can hurl them between star systems, detonate nuclear blasts, and do lots of other neat tricks. In their interstellar gadding, they discover other intelligent and psi-capable humans. In fact, those others are so human-like that they are reproductively compatible. And, since the Earthian guys are obviously such superior beings, offers to test that compatibility come often.

It's not all good times and spread-the-genes, though. Dozens of star systems harbor human life, and psionic Primes, all at nearly identical levels of development social (except that some have decidedly inferior tobacco). Unfortunately, they're not all as easy-going and altruistic as Earth's Primes. As a result, Earth's Primes need to rough them up in their easy-going and altruistic way, to unify them under the newly-designed Galaxian banner. The Galaxian inner council consists of one Prime pair from each of those dozens of planets, in Noah-like male/female couples. How do we know they're the finest of each star system? Well, for one thing, the ladies of those planets are super-babes, too. Not only are they as mighty of mind as their men, they are also mighty in their womanliness and eager to prove it by racing the others to a demonstration of fecundity.

This is a wonderful artifact of its time, as close to Buster Crabbe's "Flash Gordon" as it is to the current day or maybe closer. It has all that cowboy exuberance and technological optimism, with gender relations a bit past the neolithic. (He and she both seem to long for a little more of the caveman/cavegirl between them, but even Doc Smith smelled women's lib in the air.) Despite the cultural imperialism and shallow sterotyping, or maybe because of it, Smith brings us space opera at its very finest.

Unique psionic civilization

To the best of my knowledge over at least 50 years of reading SF&F, this is the only attempt to describe civilization(s) based upon the idea that the vast majority of the population are psionic. While this is classic space opera - the main characters are lost in space, fight invading aliens threatening the humanity of the worlds they are visiting, finally learn control of the mechanical psi-functioning spacecraft, and begin unifying the galaxy as a part of the United Galaxian Societies- it is also a subtle commentary on our civilization, especially the cold war. One notable idea is the statement "To the mature mind, there is no such thing as status. Each knows what he can do best and does it as a matter of course. Rank is not necessary."

On the Duty of Civil Disobedience is an essay by American transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau that was first published in 1849. In it, Thoreau argues that individuals should not permit governments to overrule or atrophy their consciences, and that they have a duty to avoid allowing such acquiescence to enable the government to make them the agents of injustice. Thoreau was motivated in part by his disgust with slavery and the Mexican–American War (1846-1848).

Henry David Thoreau's Civil Disobedience was originally published in 1849 as Resistance to Civil Government. Thoreau wrote this classic essay to advocate public resistance to the laws and acts of government that he considered unjust. The practical application of Civil Disobedience was largely ignored until the twentieth century when, at different times, Modanda Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Jr. and anti-Vietnam War activists applied Thoreau's principles.

About the Author
Henry David Thoreau was an American author, poet, and philosopher, who is best known for his works Waldena treatise about living in concert with the natural worldand Civil Disobedience, in which he espoused the need to morally resist the actions of an unjust state. Thoreau s work heavily reflects the ideologies of the American transcendentalists, and he has long been considered a leading figure in the movement along with Ralph Waldo Emerson, Bronson Alcott, and, at first, Nathaniel Hawthorne (who changed his views later in life). In addition to his writing, which totaled more than twenty volumes, Thoreau was an active abolitionist, and lectured regularly against the Fugitive Slave Law. Thoreau died in 1862, and is buried along with Louisa May Alcott, Ellery Channing, and other notable Americans in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, Massachusetts.

A masterpiece of individualism and the fight for justice.

Civil Disobedience is one of the most importance works of philosophy ever written. Like all great works of philosophy, it is as relevant today as it has ever been, as it transcends space and time. Don't let the abolitionist nature mislead you: this book is not merely about abolition and slavery. Rather, it is about Man Against the State, individuality, and Thoreau's philosophy of how one man can stand up to government and society, driven by his own convictions of right and wrong, as summarized by the timeless quote "Any man more right than his neighbors constitutes a majority of one already".

Thoreau's main point is that the best - and many times, the only - method for fighting injustice is through passive disobedience. By refusing to cooperate with the machinery of injustice, the individual can become the friction that stops the machine. Active resistance is bound for failure, as the machine (the State, society, etc.) is too formidable for the individual to fight. But, by refusing to cooperate, justice can be achieved and injustice toppled.

In "Civil Disobedience" Thoreau presents political theories in which he dissects democracy and the interaction between citizens and their government.
Understandably, Thoreau was deeply concerned about injustices he witnessed during his life, such as enslavement of one sixth of the population and the invasion of Mexico by the United States.
Thoreau does not oppose the institution of government; he believes that when a government becomes "abused and perverted", it ceases to represent the will of the people. When a government makes decisions that promulgate harm and injustice, it is the duty of its citizens to rebel and break those chains of injustices.

Arguably, the strongest idea Thoreau presents, is the notion of individualism. Thoreau encourages skepticism of the government and rejects blind loyalty to it. Thoreau perceives citizens, who give blind loyalty to their government's decisions without questioning them, as participants in every injustice committed by that government. Whether this point of view is correct or not, it is worth debating, especially in view of the horrific injustices that are extant in today's world and the way the masses so easily accept them without considering the negative impact on others.

Arise, Ye Overworked Americans!

Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) was an American philosopher, poet, and naturalist who moved in the same intellectual and social circles as Ralph Waldo Emerson. This Dover Thrift edition contains several important Thoreau tracts: Civil Disobedience, Slavery in Massachusetts, A Plea for Captain John Brown, Walking, and Life Without Principle. Thoreau also wrote the famous "Walden," and several other influential pieces shaped by his sense of environment and his unwavering belief in the power of the individual.
In "Civil Disobedience," Thoreau discusses the role of the individual in society and government. Starting off with his famous statement, "That government is best which governs not at all," Thoreau waxes philosophic about the role of the United States government in the Mexican War and slavery. Thoreau argues that majorities in a democracy decide what the laws are because they are the strongest element in society. According to Thoreau, what is law is not necessarily right, and just because the majority decides an issue doesn't automatically make that issue palatable to a man's conscience. Individuals can, and sometimes should, oppose the majority, and they can be right even if they are in the minority. Ultimately, if laws are not reliable beacons of truth, one should appeal to one's conscience to decide what is right and wrong. However, merely deciding something is wrong is not enough if that decision is not followed by concrete action. Thoreau criticizes the voting process in this context, since anybody can vote for something. Without action following a decision, voting or supporting something is useless. This essay also contains Thoreau's account of his stay in jail for failure to pay a tax.
"A Plea for Captain John Brown" probably caused considerable controversy at the time of its writing. John Brown was the fire-breathing abolitionist who made the famous raid on Harper's Ferry in the 1850's. Brown eventually went to the gallows for his crimes while American citizens debated his actions. Most thought Brown a wacko, an extremely dangerous radical who threatened the social fabric of the country. Thoreau defends Brown in an essay both eloquent and naïve. This is really a panegyric to an unrealistic man who used questionable methods to attain his goal. When Thoreau refers to Brown as "an angel of light," it is necessary for the reader to remember Brown killed many people in cold blood.
"Walking" is the centerpiece of this collection of essays. Thoreau starts his discussion by musing on the wonders of walking in the country (sans terre, or "sauntering"), and ends up discussing nature, the movements of mankind, work, and freedom. Thoreau feels we gave up something very special when we locked ourselves in our shops and devoted our days to long hours of work. Get out! Enjoy life! Admire the trees, a sunset, and the birds! Don't give up your freedom for a wage and dull toil! These are the things Thoreau urges upon us in this essay, and he certainly has a point. This is an amazing piece of writing because it is probably more relevant today than in Thoreau's time. At least in those days vast expanses of nature still existed. Today, we must climb into our little boxes with wheels and drive for miles before we see a small forest or some mountains, while elbowing our way through all the others doing the same thing. "Walking" is a beautiful testament to a bucolic life.
I find Thoreau's writings vastly superior to anything Emerson wrote. Thoreau is more accessible, cares more about concrete issues, and seems like a nicer person. Thoreau comes across as the type of guy you could shoot the breeze with for an hour or so, whereas Emerson seems aloof and esoteric. Thoreau as a person is from an era long dead, but his words continue to resonate deeply in our souls. I think I'll go take a walk.

When I really like a book I never want it to end

Just finished book three. I am at the point I want to get into book four, but then it will come to the end.
When I really like a book I never want it to end. I really enjoy the suspense of not knowing!!
I sure hope Liberty is working on another book series, I like her style of writing.
